This week’s “photos before and after” image is a little different for me. I have been incredibly tired lately, to the point where I have had to reduce how much I can possibly do in a day. And 99% of my images have been shot in the same place, my living room. But I’ve been noticing tons of light patterns as they come through different windows, curtains, blinds, or hitting objects and making shapes. And I wanted to give this a little play.
I saw the stripes coming through from the blinds and I exposed so that I could get the detail on her face back, but that I didn’t blow the highlights tremendously. Looking back I had a little more play and could have brightened it up a stop or two.
I had planned on this being a black and white image from the moment I took it, but it really lacked the punch that I was hoping for. I ended up having to add some contrast, cool the image by a point or two, and overall, meh. I’m not wildly in love with it, but it won’t deter me from trying some things again. I may put a reflector in front of her to try and bounce some more light on her face so I can get more dramatic with the rest of the image, but, whatever, a fun image to shoot, a fun image to play with.
